Liverpool one point away from Premier League glory

Liverpool are just one point away from winning the Premier League title as they get ready to face Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.

A draw would be enough to hand the Reds their 20th league title, putting them level with rivals Manchester United for the most in English football history. They currently lead Arsenal by 13 points with only four games left after the Gunners were held to a draw by Crystal Palace midweek.

Tottenham, sitting 16th on the table, face a tough task. They haven’t won at Anfield since 2011 and have already lost heavily to Liverpool this season, including a 6-3 defeat and a League Cup semi-final loss on aggregate.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk praised the team’s strong season but said the job isn’t done yet. “It’s a good position, but we’re not there yet. We’ll be ready for Sunday,” he said.

Battle for Champions League Spots Heats Up

The race for Champions League qualification is still wide open. Only four points separate third-placed Manchester City and seventh-placed Aston Villa.

Liverpool have already qualified, and Arsenal are close. That leaves three Champions League spots up for grabs.

City boosted their chances with a last-minute win over Villa. Nottingham Forest also moved up after beating Spurs. Both Villa and Forest will be in FA Cup semi-final action this weekend, giving Newcastle and Chelsea the chance to catch up.

Newcastle host Ipswich and could overtake City with a win. Chelsea, meanwhile, need three points against Everton as they prepare for a difficult end to the season that includes matches against Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United, and Forest.

Relegation Woes: Ipswich on the Edge

At the bottom of the table, Ipswich could be relegated this weekend. If West Ham earn a draw at Brighton on Saturday, Ipswich’s stay in the Premier League would end.

Leicester and Southampton are already down. If Ipswich drop too, it would mark the second season in a row that all three newly-promoted teams were relegated — something last seen in 1998.

Southampton, already relegated, are now tied with Derby’s record-low points total of 11. They still have five games to avoid finishing with the worst record in Premier League history.
