Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I, has advised celebrities not to go broke trying to meet fans’ expectations.
In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, M.I said many Nigerian celebrities feel pressured to live flashy lifestyles, often to avoid being “broke shamed” by fans.
“When I realized people in Nigeria tend to broke shame celebrities, I had to decide whether I would let that control me. If you keep adjusting to what fans expect, you can end up going broke,” he said.
M.I also pointed out that many celebrities focus too much on perception rather than reality. He noted that some stars who were once trending have lost their relevance because they are no longer as wealthy as before.
“One of the things Nigerians care about is perception. Statistically, most people don’t have money. It took me time to accept being broke shamed. Celebrities who were flying private jets 20 years ago are no longer affluent,” he added.
