Popular sports journalist Oma Akatugba has claimed that Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye once turned down the advances of a Nigerian billionaire’s daughter despite efforts to persuade him otherwise.
Akatugba Recalls Encounter in the Netherlands
Akatugba disclosed this in a post on his X handle, recalling an encounter with the goalkeeper while he was still playing for Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam.
According to the journalist, he was visiting Okoye in the Netherlands when the goalkeeper showed him a message he had received from the daughter of a Nigerian billionaire.
‘She’s Not Really My Type’ — Okoye
Akatugba said he encouraged Okoye to consider the woman because of her wealthy background, but the goalkeeper declined, stating that she was not his ideal partner.
“One day I was at Maduka’s place while he was still living in Holland, and he showed me his phone. He had a message from the daughter of a Nigerian billionaire. I screamed, ‘Bro, this one na big fish o!’ He laughed and said, ‘Yeah, but she’s not really in my league beauty-wise,’” Akatugba wrote.
Goalkeeper’s Popularity Among Female Fans
Okoye attracted widespread attention from female admirers following his debut for the Super Eagles in 2019, with many fans praising his looks and physique on social media.
As public interest in his personal life grew, the goalkeeper later revealed that he was already in a relationship.
Relationship With Dutch Model
Okoye is currently in a long-term relationship with Dutch model Jelicia Westhoff, and the couple share a son, Isaiah Emil Okoye.
