Kylian Mbappé is now just one goal away from becoming France’s all-time leading scorer after finding the net in their impressive friendly win over Brazil at Gillette Stadium.

The France national football team forward struck in the 32nd minute, finishing calmly after a precise through pass from Ousmane Dembélé to beat Brazil goalkeeper Ederson.

The goal takes Mbappé’s tally to 56 in 95 appearances, putting him just one shy of the record held by Olivier Giroud.

Making his return to the starting lineup after recovering from a knee injury sustained during his time at Real Madrid, Mbappé showed sharpness early on and could have added more goals but missed two chances before being substituted in the 66th minute for Marcus Thuram.

France’s momentum was briefly threatened in the second half when defender Dayot Upamecano was sent off for a last-man foul on Brazil’s Wesley.

Despite going down to 10 men, Didier Deschamps’ side remained composed and doubled their lead in the 65th minute through Hugo Ekitiké, who finished from close range with a delicate chip.

The victory highlighted France’s strength in depth, but the spotlight remained firmly on Mbappé, who now stands on the verge of breaking a historic national record.
