The annual Met Gala has revealed the theme for its 2026 edition, scheduled for May 4, 2026, with Anna Wintour set to host the high-profile fundraising event.

The 2026 dress code has been announced as ‘Fashion Is Art’, encouraging attendees to view their bodies as a blank canvas for artistic expression through fashion.

Speaking on the theme, Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, highlighted the unifying power of fashion.

“What connects every curatorial department and what connects every single gallery in the museum is fashion, or the dressed body. It’s the common thread throughout the whole museum, which is really what the initial idea for the exhibition was,” Bolton said.

The Met Gala, renowned for its haute couture displays and celebrity attendance, serves as a major fundraising festival for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute while showcasing fashion as a form of cultural and artistic expression.

Attendees are expected to interpret this year’s theme creatively, reflecting the intricate relationship between fashion, art, and personal identity.
