American singer Miley Cyrus has opened up about why she said yes to her engagement to musician Maxx Morando, 27, sharing a surprising and humorous reason during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday.

The 33-year-old star confirmed her engagement on Tuesday, showing off a $150,000 ring on her wedding finger at a recent red carpet event. On the talk show, she revealed she agreed to marry Morando because of a secret “phobia” she has – an intense dislike of paper.

“I [hate] paper,” Cyrus told host Jimmy Kimmel. “Even seeing the cue cards on your desk makes me want to vomit. The real problem is when people have dry hands and they touch paper.”

She joked that because of her fear, she now has Morando open all her Amazon packages outside their Los Angeles home. “That’s why I got engaged. I make my fiancé open all the packages outside,” she said.

Kimmel reminded her that the first wedding anniversary tradition is paper, to which she replied, “No here.” He also asked if she will sign the marriage certificate when they tie the knot. Cyrus recalled her brief marriage to Liam Hemsworth, noting their certificate was on “smooth paper,” which she preferred. She admitted she could not clearly remember signing it because she had “smoked one of those imaginary joints” at the time.

The host also asked if Morando considered the timing of his proposal so close to Christmas. Miley joked while showing her ring, “This was a Black Friday deal, baby,” but later clarified it wasn’t, saying her fiancé is “smart that way.”

Cyrus appeared on the show to promote James Cameron’s new film Avatar: Fire and Ash, for which she recorded the ballad Dream As One. She arrived at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood wearing skin-tight leather pants, a white lace camisole, a fur puffer jacket, and stiletto heels. Her mother, Tish Cyrus, and several security guards accompanied her.
