Manchester United secured a comfortable 2–0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday, with goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Šeško giving Erik ten Hag’s side all three points.
United started the match brightly, passing with purpose and taking control early. Mount opened the scoring after a well-worked team move, finishing neatly to give the hosts the lead. Šeško then doubled the advantage with a calm strike, showing confidence and composure in front of goal.
There was a moment of controversy in the first half when Šeško caught Trai Hume with a high boot inside the box. Referee Stuart Attwell initially awarded a penalty to Sunderland, but after a VAR review, the decision was overturned — a huge relief for United fans.
Former England captain Steph Houghton said on BBC Final Score:
“When your leg is that high, you run the risk of giving away a penalty. It was lazy defending in that moment.”
Pundit Chris Sutton also praised United’s attacking play, saying the team looked more fluid this season.
“It’s important for Šeško to get goals early. United have a better supply line this season, and it’s showing.”
Sunderland’s best chance came from Daniel Ballard, whose header went just wide before half-time. But apart from that, they offered little threat against a well-organised United defence.
Bruno Fernandes controlled the game from midfield, helping United stay composed and dominant throughout the match.
It was a professional performance from the Red Devils, who continue to build confidence as the season progresses.
