Nigerian rapper and 2020 Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) winner, Olamilekan “Laycon” Agbeleshebioba, has revealed that his victory in the reality show was instrumental in saving his mother’s life.
Speaking on the ‘Echo Room’ podcast, hosted by former BBNaija housemate Teddy A, Laycon disclosed that his mother’s health was already in a critical state before he entered the house. However, while he was confined to the BBNaija house, her condition deteriorated further without his knowledge.
“I said it in the house. When I was in the house, my mum was ill,” Laycon said. “By the time I came out, my mum was close to death.”
Laycon also emphasized the significance of his victory, stating that had he finished as the runner-up, the consequences could have been devastating for his family.
“I am saying it categorically now, if I didn’t win that show, if I had gone and came back second, my mum would be dead now,” he said.
The 32-year-old rapper, who became a household name after his BBNaija win, later released his long-awaited mixtape “Kashimaawoo,” a deeply personal project dedicated to his late father.
Laycon previously shared that winning the show also led him to lose his “inner voice,” as the weight of success brought its own challenges.
