Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has paid tribute to the late evangelist Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, describing him as a spiritual father who greatly influenced his walk with God and shaped his ministry.

In an emotional post on Instagram, the “Imela” crooner said Ukpai’s lifestyle of prayer and fasting left a lasting mark on him, adding that the late preacher’s devotion inspired his own spiritual discipline.

“Oh! Dr. Uma! Sometimes you wish some people would never die. Just a few days ago, I was inspired to lead multitudes in an evening fast — something I learnt from you and did mention so,” Bassey wrote.

The gospel minister went on to describe the late Ukpai as “a man of great power, immense stature, and spiritual depth,” saying he understood how to use praise and worship as powerful tools in spiritual battles.

“You called me SON. What a privilege. A man who knew the ways of the spirit,” he added.

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80, was the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, an interdenominational ministry known for its large healing crusades and deliverance programs across Africa.

Ukpai’s death, confirmed by his family a week later, sparked an outpouring of tributes from church leaders, gospel artists, and followers who described him as a man whose teachings on faith, perseverance, and prayer inspired generations of Christians.
