Newcastle United have agreed a £40m deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, with the move now awaiting final formalities, including a medical.
The agreement in principle comes just days before Villa host Newcastle in their Premier League opener on Saturday. Ramsey, 24, has been a key figure for Villa since making his debut in 2019, scoring 17 goals in 167 appearances and featuring regularly under Unai Emery last season.
The former England U21 international will bolster Newcastle’s midfield options following Sean Longstaff’s exit.
His signing adds to a busy week for the Magpies, who have also secured winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, defender Malick Thiaw from AC Milan, and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton.
Manager Eddie Howe will see Ramsey as a player with the age, energy and top-flight experience to make an immediate impact at St James’ Park.
