The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly preparing to offer Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle a $100,000 monthly salary amid ongoing contract negotiations, according to sources close to the federation.

Currently earning $50,000 per month, the Franco-Malian tactician had requested $130,000, arguing that the increase would also cover the salaries of his technical staff.

A source within the NFF told 9jaOnline Magazine that while the federation is open to meeting some of Chelle’s demands, they cannot go beyond $100,000 per month.

“We want continuity. If he lowers his demand, we want him to stay, but the ceiling is $100,000. If not, we’ll look abroad for a replacement,” the source said, stressing that appointing a local coach is off the table.

Chelle, who has been linked with Olympique Marseille and other African national teams, insists he remains committed to Nigeria despite the negotiations. On the Histoires de Foot Podcast, he explained that his salary request reflects the responsibility he takes for paying his technical staff:

“It’s not just for me. In Africa, with national teams I’ve worked with, I have to pay my technical crew myself. That’s why the request is higher — to give me the right conditions to do my job.”

The coach’s demands reportedly include better accommodation, official transport, improved technical facilities, and a greater role in scouting and team preparation.

Chelle is expected to announce the squad for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies during the next FIFA window, as talks with the NFF continue.
