Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp has once again played into fan theories about a possible romance between his character, Will Byers, and his best friend Mike Wheeler, played by Finn Wolfhard.
In a new TikTok video posted on Monday, October 27, the 21-year-old actor smiled as he read a fan’s comment asking if “Byler” a nickname combining their last names, would finally happen in the show’s upcoming fifth and final season.
“Is Byler happening or not?” the fan asked.
Responding with a grin, Schnapp said, “You guys love saying this. And I never listen.”
He added, “It’s probably the most commented comment in all my late-night videos. And I always ignore it.”
Fans flooded the comments with playful replies. “YOU IGNORE IT BECAUSE YOU KNOW IT’S TRUE OK,” one person wrote, while another added, “We need Byler.”
A few days earlier, Schnapp had already teased fans by posting another selfie video with the caption, “This song will be in season 5… I wonder why.” The clip featured Tiffany’s classic hit, I Think We’re Alone Now, sparking even more speculation.
Online discussions about a Will-Mike romance have been circulating for years, especially after a scene in season 4 where Will expresses his emotions while talking to Mike about Eleven. Many fans believe it was his way of revealing his real feelings for his best friend.
In 2023, Schnapp publicly came out as gay and told Variety that playing Will helped him embrace his own identity.
“Once I did fully embrace that Will was gay, it was just an exponential speed towards accepting it for myself,” he said. “I think if I never played that character, I probably would still be closeted.”
Stranger Things’ final season will premiere in three parts on Netflix — Volume 1 on November 26, Volume 2 on Christmas Day, and the series finale on New Year’s Eve. Each part will include four episodes.
