Grace-Charis Bassey Effah, the Nollywood actress who left the movie industry to join the United States Navy, has announced her engagement.
Bassey shared the news in a Facebook post on Tuesday, posting photos of herself and her fiancé.
Although she did not reveal the identity of her partner, the actress proudly showed off her engagement ring in the pictures.
“Answered prayers,” she wrote.
“It feels like a dream, but when true love finds you, you melt.”
Bassey did not give details of the proposal or disclose her fiancé’s name, but expressed joy and gratitude as she celebrated the new chapter in her life.
From Nollywood to US Navy Grace Bassey
Her engagement comes months after she made headlines for leaving Nollywood to pursue a military career in the United States.
Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, graduated from the United States Navy boot camp in 2025 and later became a US citizen after taking the oath of allegiance.
She dedicated the achievement to her late father, Asido Bassey Effah, a retired naval commander.
The actress had earlier said she stepped away from acting because she no longer found fulfilment in the profession.
She also revealed that joining the US Navy had been a lifelong dream, having attended the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt and grown up in a military family.
Bassey made her Nollywood debut in the 2005 television series, Shallow Waters.
She later left the series to participate in the reality show, Next Movie Star.
During her acting career, she won several awards, including the Most Promising Act of the Year at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
In 2021, she announced that she had changed her name from Belinda to Grace-Charis after what she described as a divine encounter.
She said her former name had a complicated meaning, which informed her decision to adopt a new name.
