NSC chairman Shehu Dikko mourns Kano athletes killed in road crash

Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of members of the Kano State team returning from the National Sports Festival.

The fatal crash happened in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State. Over 20 people, including athletes, officials, and support staff, lost their lives in the incident while traveling back from the event held to promote unity and sportsmanship.

In a statement on Saturday, Dikko, speaking on behalf of the Federal Government, said the loss is heartbreaking not just for the affected families and Kano State, but for the entire nation.

“These young men and women were committed to sports and had a bright future ahead of them. Their dedication brought pride to the country,” he said.

He added that the Federal Government stands with the Kano State Government, the sports community, and every family affected by the tragedy.

“The Commission is working closely with the right authorities to support those affected and ensure the lives lost are remembered in a proper and respectful way,” Dikko stated.

He also prayed for the souls of the departed to rest in peace and for a quick recovery for those injured in the accident.

“May Almighty Allah give us all the strength to bear this great loss,” he added.
