The first daughter of late gospel singer Omije Ojumi has spoken emotionally about her mother’s life, describing her as a strong and caring woman who stood by her children despite difficulties in her marriage.
Speaking at a service of songs held in honour of the late singer on Wednesday, her daughter, Jomiloju, said her mother always showed up for her children, even during times when their father was not around.
According to her, Omije Ojumi’s biggest wish was to raise responsible and disciplined children, and she worked hard to make sure they did not repeat what she saw as mistakes in her own marriage.
“She was always there for us, even when our father wasn’t,” Jomiloju said. “Her focus was to make sure we grew up responsible and did better than she did in her marital life.”
She added that her mother placed great importance on education, enrolling her children in the best schools she could afford in order to secure their future.
In an emotional moment, Jomiloju also made a promise to her late mother, saying she would take care of her younger brother and guide him to become a responsible and prayerful young man.
“I promised my mum that I will take care of my younger brother,” she said. “He will grow to be the responsible and prayerful son she always wanted him to be.”
