Nigerian singer Esegine Allen, popularly known as Orezi, has reacted to a viral video showing U.S. officials calling for justice for Deborah Samuel, the student who was killed in Sokoto in 2022 over alleged blasphemy.
In the video shared on his Instagram page, the U.S. officials said Nigeria should have been listed as a “Country of Particular Concern” over such human rights violations.
Reacting, Orezi expressed anger that no one had been held accountable for Deborah’s killing.
“This happened and till today, the Nigerian government did nothing about it. No one, absolutely no one was held accountable,” he wrote.
He condemned the lack of justice, saying, “Young Deborah was burned to death, recorded, and published all over the internet. Truth is, the Nigerian government needs to take the life of its citizens seriously. The recklessness needs to stop.”
