Victor Osimhen, Galatasaray striker, is set to return to action with special protective gear on his arm following surgery for a hand fracture.

According to The Punch, 27-year-old sustained the injury after a collision with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté during their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash last week. He underwent surgery earlier this week, with a projected recovery period of about six weeks.

Turkish journalist Arda Özkurt, via Winner Galatasaray, confirmed:

“If Victor Osimhen’s treatment process progresses as planned, he can wear the jersey with a special protective splint if needed.”

Osimhen is no stranger to protective gear, having previously worn a facial mask following a cheekbone surgery in 2021. The new device is designed to immobilise his forearm and wrist, supporting the healing process, reducing pain, and preventing further injury. The splint features adjustable straps for compression and breathable padding for comfort.

According to Turkish media, the Super Eagles striker could return in time for the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe on April 26 at the earliest. If delayed, he may feature only in Galatasaray’s final two league matches against Antalyaspor at home and Kasımpaşa away.

Osimhen will also hope to help Galatasaray progress in the Turkish Cup, where they face Gençlerbirliği in the quarter-finals.

This season, he has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, while netting seven goals and providing three assists in 10 UEFA Champions League matches before the club’s exit, helping Galatasaray maintain a four-point lead in the league.
