Paul Pogba is set to make his long-awaited debut for AS Monaco this weekend, more than two years after his last competitive appearance.

The 32-year-old French midfielder, who missed the start of the season due to a sciatica injury, will be included in Monaco’s squad for their Ligue 1 clash against Rennes on Saturday.

Pogba’s return has been delayed multiple times. He was originally expected to debut last month but suffered a muscle injury, and then withdrew again after an ankle problem in training.

Monaco manager Sebastien Pocognoli expressed cautious optimism about the World Cup winner’s return. “We will judge him on what he can offer on the pitch. Paul is happy, focused, and ready to get back to top-level football,” Pocognoli told reporters.

The former Manchester United and Juventus star has signed a two-year contract with Monaco after serving an 18-month ban for a doping violation, which initially was a four-year sentence. Pogba described the period as “hell,” including losing his Juventus contract.

Monaco currently sits sixth in Ligue 1, five points off a Champions League spot. The club hopes Pogba’s experience and leadership will help mentor younger players and boost their campaign.
