American singer and rapper Lizzo has revealed that she lost her virginity in her 30s, admitting that she had previously lied about her sexual experience.

The “About Damn Time” hitmaker made the revelation during an appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, hosted by Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco. She said she had pretended to be sexually active while at the University of Houston to avoid embarrassment among friends.

“I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy,” Lizzo said. “I kept that pact for nearly two decades.”

The singer, now 37, won her first Grammy Awards in 2020, taking home three trophies: Best Pop Solo Performance for Truth Hurts, Best Urban Contemporary Album for the deluxe edition of Cuz I Love You, and Best Traditional R&B Performance for Jerome. She revealed that she had her first sexual experience shortly after achieving this milestone.

Lizzo also recalled her first kiss at age 21, describing it as “terrible” because it was forced. She explained that her delayed romantic experiences were influenced by her religious upbringing, noting that she and her peers had made a pact to abstain from sex before marriage.

On her current relationship, Lizzo said she has been dating Myke Wright since 2021. The couple first met in 2016 while hosting MTV’s music series Wonderland, but there was no immediate spark.

Reflecting on sharing her story, Lizzo described it as “like a weight lifted off my chest,” admitting she had carried the secret for years.
