Manchester United are performing worse under Ruben Amorim this season than they were at the same point last year, according to a new comparison table by Opta Sport.

The stats reveal that United have collected only 10 points from their first seven games, four fewer than they managed under former boss Erik ten Hag last season.

When Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team sacked Ten Hag in October 2024, fans hoped for a big turnaround. But nearly a year later, results have barely improved.

Amorim arrived at Old Trafford with huge expectations after leading Sporting Lisbon to their first Portuguese league title in 20 years. However, since taking charge, he has managed only 10 wins in 34 Premier League matches, with half of those coming against newly promoted teams.

United have already lost three league games this season and currently sit 10th in the table.

The club’s signings of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Senne Lammens were expected to strengthen the squad, but Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation is yet to deliver consistent results.

In contrast, teams like Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur have shown major improvement this season, while Manchester City are six points better off than they were at this stage last year.

At the other end of the table, Brighton, Aston Villa, and Wolves have made poor starts, with Brighton nine points worse off than last season.

With October and November known as the “sacking season” in football, pressure is mounting on Amorim. Reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who appointed the Portuguese coach, could soon make a decision on his future.

Amorim’s job was on the line after a poor 3–1 loss to Brentford last week, but a 2–0 win over Sunderland on Saturday gave him some breathing space. Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko scored the goals in what could prove to be a job-saving victory.

After the match, Mount said the players were “100 percent” behind Ruben Amorim. The manager, however, urged his team to show their support with effort on the pitch.

“We need to show it with actions,” Amorim said. “It’s our responsibility to play like this every week — not just at home.”

The win marked United’s third straight home victory, though their last two were followed by defeats away to Manchester City and Brentford.

Next up, the Red Devils face Liverpool at Anfield after the international break — a game that could define Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.
