Pop star Britney Spears was arrested on Wednesday night in Ventura County, California, after police reportedly found an unknown substance in her car during a DUI stop.

According to reports, Spears, 44, was behind the wheel of a 2026 black BMW convertible when California Highway Patrol officers noticed her vehicle swerving and braking erratically. Police pursued the singer for nearly an hour before finally stopping her car.

A police search revealed a mystery substance, which has been sent to a laboratory for testing. Spears was taken into custody and booked at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office around 3 a.m., and released three hours later.

Sources said the singer appeared emotional and distressed during the booking process, reportedly “crying a lot.” Her BMW was impounded and is currently at a tow yard in Thousand Oaks.

Spears is expected to appear in court on May 4, facing charges related to the DUI incident. Following her arrest, the singer disabled her Instagram account, sparking renewed concern among fans over her wellbeing.

Her manager, Cade Hudson, described the incident as an “unfortunate and inexcusable” event, assuring that Spears will cooperate with authorities and take steps to comply with the law.

The arrest marks another chapter in Spears’ turbulent life. The singer’s long legal battle over a conservatorship ended in November 2021, granting her full control over her personal and financial affairs. Experts say this latest incident is unlikely to result in a reinstatement of that conservatorship.

Britney Spears, known globally for hits like Toxic and Criminal, has faced public scrutiny over her personal struggles in recent years, including multiple run-ins with authorities.
