Nigerian singer Skales has opened up about a harrowing experience involving a clash with a billionaire that led to his arrest and an unexpected performance in a police cell.

In a candid interview with Zikoko media, Skales recounted how he and his manager were detained following a dispute with a wealthy individual. When his manager was arrested, Skales refused to leave him behind, resulting in his own detention. While writing a statement at the police station, he was informed that he would have to spend the night in the cell.

Inside the cell, fellow inmates quickly recognized the artist. One inmate, upon learning of Skales’ presence, inquired if he had committed a serious crime, even offering to “help” him retaliate against the billionaire. The cell’s hierarchy required Skales to “greet the boss” to avoid potential bullying. The cell boss requested a performance of Skales’ hit songs “Shake Body” and “Emergency,” promising a mat to sleep on instead of the bare floor. Skales obliged, performing for the inmates, which earned him sympathy and better treatment.

Reflecting on the experience, Skales highlighted the harsh conditions within the cell, noting that detainees only ate when their families sent money for food. Upon his release, he returned with food for the inmates as a gesture of gratitude.
