Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist, Eucharia Anunobi, has backed First Lady Remi Tinubu’s controversial advice to Nigerians on small-scale businesses, telling young people to stop begging for “urgent ₦2,000” and start something with their hands.
In a video shared on Instagram, Eucharia said Nigerians who constantly ask for small financial help should consider petty trading and skill-based businesses such as frying akara, roasting corn or making kuli-kuli.
“Every time you will be asking for urgent ₦2k, have you not heard you can start a small skill business like akara frying, corn roasting, kuli-kuli making,” she said.
The actress said small beginnings should not be despised, insisting that those who start modest businesses can grow into successful entrepreneurs.
“Before you can say first lady akara, sorry the chairman, chairlady alakara, you would have become a millionaire,” she added.
Eucharia also quoted scripture to support her argument, saying God blesses the work of people’s hands and not idleness.
Her comment comes weeks after Remi Tinubu came under heavy criticism for urging Nigerians to embrace small businesses such as akara, roasted corn and kuli-kuli amid the country’s biting economic hardship.
While many Nigerians accused the First Lady of being disconnected from the reality of hunger and inflation, others argued that she was only encouraging self-reliance.
Eucharia has now joined the debate, making it clear that, in her view, frying akara is better than sitting around and begging for urgent ₦2,000.
