Nigeria international defender Igoh Ogbu has successfully undergone corrective surgery after fracturing his momentum with a severe Achilles tendon injury while on international duty with the Super Eagles. The 26-year-old centre-back ruptured his left Achilles tendon during a training session in Leiria, Portugal, just days ahead of Nigeria’s international friendly against the Portuguese national team.
Following the training ground incident, Ogbu was immediately released from the national team camp and traveled back to the Czech Republic. His club, SK Slavia Prague, confirmed via an official press release that the defender underwent a successful surgical procedure at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice.
“The club confirmed that Ogbu has begun an intensive rehabilitation program but will be sidelined for up to three months, effectively ruling him out of the start of the upcoming league season.”
Sudden injury halt to an impressive international run
The long-term injury layout comes as a devastating blow to the former junior international, who had freshly established himself as an indispensable pillar in coach Eric Chelle’s defensive setup. Ogbu had built significant momentum, featuring in three back-to-back matches for the Super Eagles directly leading up to the training setback.
The standard three-month recovery timeline means the reigning Czech First League champion will spend the summer months in specialized rehabilitation, delaying his integration into Slavia Prague’s title defense and continental campaigns.
