The Super Eagles of Nigeria have officially opened camp in Polokwane, South Africa, as preparations intensify for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Lesotho.

Players and officials began arriving on Monday, with several key stars already in camp, including Wilfred Ndidi, Ademola Lookman, and Kelechi Iheanacho. The remaining squad members are expected to join within the next 24 hours as head coach Finidi George kicks off full training sessions.

The camp’s early start is aimed at giving the team ample time to adapt to local conditions and fine-tune tactics ahead of Thursday’s encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Speaking upon arrival, Finidi expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness and emphasized the importance of starting the qualifying campaign strongly.

“We know what’s at stake,” Finidi said. “Every point counts in World Cup qualification, and we’re fully focused on getting the job done against Lesotho. The players are motivated, and the spirit in camp is excellent.”

Nigeria, drawn in Group C alongside Lesotho, South Africa, Benin Republic, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda, will be hoping to secure maximum points before facing South Africa in their second qualifier next week.

Team officials confirmed that the Super Eagles will hold double training sessions before matchday, with tactical drills, set-piece routines, and fitness conditioning forming the core of their preparations.

The match against Lesotho is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. local time on Thursday, with Nigeria aiming to make a strong statement in their quest for a return to the FIFA World Cup after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.
