It’s the hardest celebrity moment of the year – Kim Kardashian, voice trembling and eyes wet with tears, pleading with her then-husband Kanye West in a new documentary trailer: “Your personality was not like this a few years ago!”
The two-minute preview for In Whose Name?, released Wednesday, captures an unvarnished Ye who was defiant, volatile, and real.
He said: “I’m off my meds for five months now… I’d rather be dead than be on medication. Either they destroy me or I destroy it.”
What follows is a roll of never-before-seen footage: Ye crying on stage at Coachella, thundering sermons in prison yards, intimate moments with his children, and tense exchanges with Kim that hint at a marriage spiralling beyond repair.
Directed by Nico Ballesteros, who shadowed Ye for six turbulent years, the film promises a ringside seat to the rapper’s meteoric rise, his chaotic controversies, and his self-proclaimed battle between genius and destruction.
While steering clear of some of his most recent scandals, the trailer still brims with combustible moments, Ye launching his presidential bid, designing his Yeezy empire, and declaring, “The best thing about being an artist and bipolar? Anything you do and say is an art piece.”
Set to premiere September 19 in thousands of AMC Theatres, In Whose Name? looks ready to ignite the biggest celebrity firestorm since their 2022 divorce.
