Grammy-winning Nigerian star Tems has announced the debut of her Leading Vibe Initiative, a groundbreaking pan-African programme designed to nurture and elevate young female talent in the music industry. This transformative initiative, aimed at women aged 18–35, offers a powerful blend of mentorship, hands-on workshops, and access to production tools—all with the goal of addressing the stark gender disparity in music.

The first-ever edition of Leading Vibe kicks off in Lagos this August (8–9 August), with applications open until 13 July through leadingvibe.com. Participants will gain intensive training, creative masterclasses, and one-on-one mentorship—including opportunities to work with cutting-edge gear courtesy of a partnership with Native Instruments.

Tems shared her inspiration behind the initiative, reflecting on her own struggle as a self-taught artist in a male-centric space:

“My goal … is to help discover and support talented young women who have the potential to redefine the industry… creating space for them to find their voices, step into their power and shape the future of music.”

With women currently making up just 22% of artists, 12.8% of songwriters, and only 3% of producers globally—and likely even lower in Africa—Leading Vibe represents a crucial strategy to bridge the gap and build an inclusive future.
