Nigerian singer, Lil Kesh, has condemned a viral video showing students of Igbinedion Education Centre violently bullying a fellow student, describing the footage as “triggering” and “upsetting to watch.”
The video, which has caused outrage on social media, shows two male students repeatedly beating and kicking a classmate who had fallen to the ground. At one point, one of the attackers drags the victim by his school suit and stomps on his chest as the boy cries out in pain. A third student, who recorded the incident, can be heard pleading with the bullies to stop.
Reacting to the video, Lil Kesh said it reminded him of his own experiences with bullying.
“This is honestly really triggering for me to watch because I got bullied when I was younger and seeing these kids gang up on other kids makes me mad,” he wrote.
He also pointed out that children who bully often struggle with empathy and personal insecurities.
“What’s sad is it’s always the kids with the least empathy, low self-esteem and insecurities picking on the ones who actually have a heart. Parents really need to raise their kids to care about other people, because this kind of behavior doesn’t just come out of nowhere,” he added.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed that the school management has expelled the students directly involved in the attack. The student who recorded the video has also been suspended.
Police spokesperson Eno Ikioyedem said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, ordered a full investigation into the incident.
“The Edo State Police Command totally condemns acts of bullying, violence or intimidation among students, and anyone found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
