Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old Mexican beauty influencer with nearly 200,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram, was tragically shot dead during a livestream from her beauty salon, Blossom The Beauty Lounge, in Zapopan, Jalisco.
On May 13, while interacting with her audience, Márquez appeared anxious, mentioning that someone had previously attempted to deliver an expensive gift. Moments later, an assailant posing as a delivery person entered the salon and fatally shot her in the chest and head. The shocking incident was partially captured on video before the livestream ended.
Authorities are investigating the case as a femicide, a gender-based killing, under protocols that consider factors like public exposure of the body and relationships with the perpetrator. No suspect has been named yet.
Márquez’s death has sparked widespread outrage and renewed discussions about the alarming rates of gender-based violence in Mexico, where, according to the United Nations, approximately 10 women are murdered daily.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
