Social media influencer Zuza Biene has passed away at the age of 14 after an 11-year battle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Diagnosed at a very young age, Zuza courageously shared her treatment journey with the public, undergoing three bone marrow transplants and enduring five relapses. Her openness and advocacy helped bring attention to childhood cancer, often using hashtags such as #childhoodcancerawarenessmonth and #cancersucks to raise awareness.
She leaves behind her parents, Ryan Beine (a physician assistant) and Dagmara Beine (a PhD-holder in Integrative Medicine), as well as her brother, Fin Beine, who stood by her every step of the way.
The family is also facing further heartbreak: Zuza’s mother recently lost her younger brother, Olaf Stieber, whose passing occurred days before Zuza’s. In response, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Olaf’s widow and children during this difficult time.
