England head coach Thomas Tuchel will remain in charge of the national team until Euro 2028 after signing a new contract extension, the Football Association (FA) announced on Thursday.

The new deal means the German tactician will lead England through the 2026 World Cup and the European Championship scheduled to be hosted by the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2028.

Tuchel, who replaced Gareth Southgate in October 2024, has enjoyed a strong start to life with the Three Lions, guiding the team through an unbeaten qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup in North America, winning all eight group matches.

Speaking after signing the new contract, the 52-year-old former Chelsea manager expressed pride at continuing in the role.

“I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England,” Tuchel said.

“It is no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup.

“It is an incredible opportunity and we are going to do our very best to make the country proud.”

The FA said the extension will provide stability and allow the team maintain full focus ahead of the World Cup campaign.

Tuchel had previously been linked with a possible move to Manchester United following the sacking of former manager Ruben Amorim, despite the club’s improved results under caretaker boss Michael Carrick.

However, his decision to extend his England contract appears to end speculation about a potential move to Old Trafford after the World Cup.
