Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has opened up about how losing his corporate job became the unexpected push that led him into acting.
The actor revealed that he was dismissed from telecommunications company Etisalat in 2012 after taking responsibility for an issue within his department. At the time, the setback hit especially hard as he was on track for a promotion and had steadily built his career.
Following his dismissal, Arukwe faced a difficult period of unemployment that lasted about a year. During that time, he struggled to break into Nollywood, landing only minor roles and earning very little, which made the transition even more challenging.
Despite the tough phase, he didn’t give up. He eventually returned to the corporate world briefly before making a bold decision in 2018 to quit his job and pursue acting full-time. That leap of faith ultimately paid off, as he went on to establish himself as a respected figure in Nollywood.
Arukwe’s story highlights how setbacks can sometimes redirect people toward their true purpose, turning what seems like failure into a defining moment for success.
