TikTok personality, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has been granted bail in the sum of ₦500,000 after he was arraigned before a Lagos magistrate’s court over his viral confrontation with police officers.
Peller was arraigned alongside Bello Oladipo on three counts bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of police officers and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The case followed a July 2 incident on Coastal Road, Lekki, where Peller was allegedly stopped by police officers for driving a newly purchased vehicle without a number plate.
A video of the encounter later went viral, showing the TikToker in a heated exchange with officers. Peller alleged harassment, claiming one of the officers pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at him.
Police, however, accused him and Oladipo of obstructing four officers who were carrying out their lawful duties. The charge also accused the defendants of threatening and recording the officers while they were on duty.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate granted them bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties each. The court also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative, while the sureties are required to present two years’ tax clearance certificates.
The matter is expected to continue in court.
