Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has revealed why she decided to permanently stop having children, saying she did not want a large family.
The actress made the disclosure during a conversation about motherhood on her YouTube channel, Shaffy Bello TV, where she shared personal experiences about family planning and raising children.
According to Bello, she underwent a medical procedure about 26 years ago to prevent further pregnancies after deciding she did not want to have many children.
She said although her former husband wanted them to have more children, she remained firm in her decision.
“My ex-husband had to beg me to have another one. I didn’t want a lot of children. I wanted to stop,” she said.
Bello explained that the doctors performed the procedure through her navel and tied her fallopian tubes, preventing the release of eggs required for pregnancy.
“So they went through my navel, went in there, did what they needed to do, and they tied it up. That was it. They closed my eggs,” she said.
The actress added that she had always been certain about the size of the family she wanted and never felt pressured to have more children.
She jokingly remarked that if she ever became pregnant again after the procedure, it would feel like a miracle.
“I’ve always said to myself that after doing that, if I get pregnant, I will feel like Mary — it’s a holy child,” Bello said.
