Veteran Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa has revealed why he did not host the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), marking the first time he has stepped aside since the awards began in 2013.
No Rift With Africa Magic
Speaking on The Morayo Show, IK insisted his absence had nothing to do with any disagreement with Africa Magic.
“This year, I wasn’t destined to host this year. I strongly believe in where God has sent you to be and at the time they sent you to be,” he said.
He described Africa Magic as his “first love” in media and emphasized the enduring mutual respect between him and the network.
“At least with TV, we are in love with each other, they love me and I love them. So, there was no problem there.”
Principles Over Endorsements
IK explained that his decision was guided by personal principles, particularly around brand endorsements.
“I have a few principles that didn’t agree with that particular edition. I don’t endorse alcoholic brands or tobacco brands. So I wouldn’t have been able to serve properly in that particular edition.”
He added that he would not have been able to “effectively deliver what they needed” under those circumstances.
New Hosts Take Over
In his place, the AMVCA organisers announced Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as hosts of the 12th edition.
IK’s explanation puts to rest speculation of any tension with Africa Magic and highlights his commitment to personal values over professional obligations, reinforcing his reputation as one of Nigeria’s principled media figures.
