James Bond fans may have to wait until 2028 before the next 007 film arrives in cinemas, marking the longest gap in the franchise’s 64-year history.

This delay follows the 2021 release of No Time To Die, which was Daniel Craig’s final outing as the British spy. With Amazon MGM Studios now in control of the Bond franchise, the next movie’s release is expected to take even longer than the previous record gap of six years between Licence to Kill (1989) and GoldenEye (1995).

What’s Causing the Delay?

While Bond’s next adventure is confirmed, fans will reportedly wait about seven years between Craig’s final appearance and the next film. After Amazon purchased MGM in 2022, the Broccoli family handed over creative control to the tech giant. This transition, along with a careful casting process, has contributed to the extended timeline.

Denis Villeneuve, director of Dune, will helm the upcoming film, with Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders, writing the screenplay. The studio is aiming to ensure that this next Bond film meets high expectations.

The Next James Bond Actor

As for Bond himself, the actor to replace Daniel Craig has yet to be confirmed. Actors including Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are among those speculated to take on the iconic role. While Dickinson is gaining attention due to his casting in The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event in 2028, no official announcements have been made by Amazon MGM.

Pre-production and Filming Timeline

According to sources close to the production, work on pre-production is expected to begin in January 2027, with principal photography planned to run into the summer. Following that, editing and post-production processes will likely take around nine months to a year.

Amazon MGM executives have emphasized that patience is essential as they want to make sure the new Bond era is handled with care and respect for the legacy of the franchise.

The Wait Continues

The upcoming film will be the 26th official James Bond movie. While fans eagerly await the next chapter, it’s clear that the studio is dedicated to delivering a polished product, ensuring that the next Bond movie is worth the long wait.
