The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reassured Nigerians that the Super Eagles’ hope of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup is still very much alive, as the global football body is yet to give a final ruling on Nigeria’s case against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

Speaking on Friday, the General Secretary of the NFF, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed that FIFA has not rejected Nigeria’s appeal over the alleged fielding of ineligible players by DR Congo during last November’s Africa World Cup play-off final.

Dr Sanusi said the federation remains confident in the strength of its case and would not have proceeded with the appeal if it lacked merit.

“We believe strongly that we have a credible case. The NFF will not pursue an appeal that has no substance,” Sanusi said.

According to him, the federation is currently awaiting a final verdict from FIFA, which is expected to be delivered in February.

He added that reports suggesting Nigeria’s case had been dismissed were false, stressing that no official decision has been communicated by FIFA.

“FIFA has not thrown out our case. Nigerians should remain calm and confident. We are waiting for the final judgement,” he said.

The NFF boss reiterated that the Super Eagles still have a chance of making the World Cup, urging fans to remain hopeful while the process runs its course.

Nigeria had lodged an appeal after DR Congo allegedly fielded players who were not eligible during the decisive play-off match that denied the Super Eagles qualification.

For now, the federation insists all hope is not lost as Nigerians await FIFA’s final decision.
