Actress Angela Okorie has spoken in defense of singer Naira Marley, describing him as a kind person who once gave her a large sum of money and supported her music career.
In a video posted to her social media account on Wednesday, the actress recalled how the singer encouraged her when she was promoting one of her songs. She said his support came at a time when others in the entertainment industry didn’t show her any.
“One of my birthdays, about three or four years ago, Naira Marley surprised me. He gave me lots of money. I was shocked,” she said.
“The encouragement he gave me, nobody has ever given it to me in this demonic industry where people envy you just for being bold and working hard.”
Okorie said she later visited Naira Marley to thank him for attending her birthday celebration, and the two talked about working on music together. According to her, he agreed to the collaboration and even promoted the song on his own.
“Naira Marley was too nice to me. He doesn’t even talk much. He is not a fighter,” she added.
Her comments come at a time when many Nigerians have been calling for a probe into allegations made by the late singer Mohbad, who accused Naira Marley and others of bullying before his death.
