Antony Price, the British fashion designer known for his work with David Bowie, Duran Duran, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80. Price was celebrated for his distinctive sculpted silhouettes and theatrical styles, which significantly influenced the fashion of the 1970s and 80s.
Price’s designs were widely recognized, including the pastel suits featured in Duran Duran’s music video “Rio.” The band paid tribute on social media, calling him a “visionary” and a “kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend.”
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price studied at the Royal College of Art in London. He began his career designing menswear and gained early recognition for the body-hugging trousers worn by Sir Mick Jagger during The Rolling Stones’ 1969 tour.
Price launched his own label in 1979 and held his first fashion show a year later. Throughout his career, he collaborated with numerous high-profile clients, including David Bowie, designing the jacket for the “As The World Falls Down” music video. In the 1990s, he began designing for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
His final collection was unveiled in London last month, in collaboration with fashion brand 16Arlington, just weeks before his death. The British Fashion Council lauded Price as a “true original” for his ability to blend menswear and womenswear.
