Spanish football club Atletico Madrid has joined the race to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Italian side Atalanta.

Even though Lookman is under contract with Atalanta until June 2027, reports suggest the club is open to selling him this summer if they receive an offer around €60 million.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Atletico has already started talks with Lookman’s representatives. Coach Diego Simeone’s team is reportedly interested in the 27-year-old after being impressed by his strong performances this season.

Lookman has scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in 37 matches across all competitions so far this season. Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, he has scored 50 goals and made 22 assists in 110 games.

Despite Atletico’s interest, they are said to be concerned about Atalanta’s high asking price. However, they are still considering a formal bid.

Several top English Premier League clubs are also monitoring Lookman’s situation. Manchester United, under their incoming manager Ruben Amorim, is reportedly planning a rebuild and sees Lookman as a potential signing.

Other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, Tottenham, and Aston Villa, have also shown interest in bringing the Nigerian international back to England. Lookman previously played in the Premier League with Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City.

Barcelona has also been mentioned as a possible destination, but the Spanish giants may find it difficult to meet the financial demands of the deal.
