Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has revealed the personal story behind her emotionally charged song, “Where Do We Go.”

Speaking on the Way Up with Angela Yee podcast, the “Rush” singer explained that the song was inspired by a private and emotionally challenging situationship she once experienced.

“It was a secret, unhealthy situationship, no one knew except us. My friends kept telling me to end it, but I loved him and kept going back because we had a real friendship,” Ayra Starr said.

Despite the deep bond she shared with her partner, Ayra Starr admitted that the relationship ultimately stalled, prompting questions about its future. This uncertainty became the driving force behind the song’s creation.

“It wasn’t going anywhere, so I started asking myself: where do we go from here? I wanted it private, but at the same time, I wanted him to fight for me,” she added.

The 23-year-old singer, who has recently been linked to fellow Afrobeats star Rema, continues to keep her private life mostly out of the public eye while channeling her personal experiences into her music.
