Barcelona strengthened their grip at the top of La Liga with a 3-1 comeback victory over Atletico Madrid at the Nou Camp on Tuesday.

Atletico took an early lead in the 19th minute when Alex Baena capitalised on a long ball over Barcelona’s high defensive line and dinked the ball past goalkeeper Joan Garcia. The goal initially appeared offside but was upheld after a VAR review.

Raphinha levelled for the hosts just seven minutes later, running onto a precise through ball from Pedri, rounding Jan Oblak, and slotting into an empty net.

The first half continued with Barcelona dominating possession. They were awarded a penalty when Pablo Barrios fouled Dani Olmo, but Robert Lewandowski missed the opportunity, sending his shot over the crossbar.

The second half turned into a thrilling back-and-forth encounter. Dani Olmo put Barcelona ahead with a composed finish after a weaving run from Lamine Yamal in the 65th minute. Ferran Torres sealed the win late on, converting Alejandro Balde’s cross with a close-range finish.

Atletico came close to equalising when Thiago Almada missed an open goal after rounding Garcia, but Barcelona held on for the victory.

The win gave Barca a four-point lead at the summit of La Liga, having played one more game than nearest rivals Real Madrid, who will face Athletic Club on Wednesday.

Dani Olmo was named Player of the Match despite leaving the field with a shoulder injury sustained while scoring, while Lewandowski and Raphinha were noted for missed opportunities that could have made the scoreline more comfortable.
