Nigeria confirmed their place in the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals with a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique in their last-16 clash in Fès. The Super Eagles were in complete control from start to finish, producing a performance full of pace, precision, and clinical finishing.
The scoring started in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman broke the deadlock, calmly finishing from close range following a well-crafted move involving Alex Iwobi and Akor Adams. Nigeria doubled their lead just five minutes later as Victor Osimhen tapped home inside the box, with Adams again providing the assist.
The Super Eagles continued to press, and Akor Adams came close to adding a third before the interval, curling a shot narrowly wide of the far post. Mozambique, making their first-ever AFCON knockout appearance, struggled to create clear chances, and a free-kick in stoppage time came to nothing, leaving the visitors trailing 2–0 at half-time.
Nigeria picked up where they left off after the break. Victor Osimhen struck again early in the second half, firing a powerful effort past the Mozambique goalkeeper to make it 3–0. Mozambique responded with a few half-chances, but Wilfred Ndidi’s timely interventions and Nigeria’s organised defence kept them at bay. Injured goalkeeper Siluane was later replaced by Urrubal, while Mozambique made another substitution, bringing on 21-year-old forward Chamito.
Despite leading comfortably, there was a brief moment of tension inside the Nigeria box as Osimhen and Lookman argued over a corner, but the incident did not affect the team’s rhythm. Eric Chelle made a substitution in the 68th minute, replacing Osimhen with Moses Simon.
Nigeria sealed their emphatic victory in the 75th minute when Akor Adams fired a superb strike to make it 4–0, becoming the first team in the tournament to reach four goals in a single match.
With this dominant win, Nigeria now advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face the winner of the Algeria vs DR Congo tie. The Super Eagles’ performance showcased their attacking prowess and reinforced their status as serious contenders for a fourth AFCON crown.
Final Score: Nigeria 4–0 Mozambique
