Cardi B tells fans pressure will not speed up new music

American rapper Cardi B has warned fans that repeatedly demanding new music will not persuade her to return to the studio sooner.

The Grammy winner addressed the complaints during an X Spaces conversation on 11 August after some supporters criticised her release schedule.

Fans had also questioned why certain songs received music videos and extensive promotion while others were released with less publicity.

Cardi said the complaints were discouraging rather than motivating. She maintained that attempts to pressure her usually made her less willing to work.

The 33-year-old also reminded listeners that every musical release would not receive the same visual treatment, promotional campaign or creative direction.

She said she had deliberately stayed away from the studio because she planned to rest throughout the summer.

“I told myself this summer I’m gonna take off, I’m gonna live my best life,” Cardi said.

Why Cardi B is taking a break from music

The rapper said she had worked intensely during the earlier part of the year and had also experienced a difficult breakup.

She believes she has earned the opportunity to relax, spend time with her four children and concentrate on her other business interests.

Cardi released her second studio album, Am I the Drama?, in September 2025, seven years after her debut album, Invasion of Privacy. She subsequently promoted the project through her Little Miss Drama tour.

Despite announcing a break, Cardi has not completely ruled out releasing new material.

She said she could share snippets of unreleased songs while enjoying herself and allow the public’s reaction to determine whether they receive an official release.

According to the rapper, a positive response could encourage her to release a song, while a poor reception would allow her to abandon it without committing further resources.

Cardi demonstrated her determination to enjoy the summer when she attended Old Navy’s “Denim Dive” launch party on 12 August.

She appeared in two brightly coloured cardigans, cropped trousers and an emerald-green Chanel handbag that matched her manicure.

The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker currently leads Old Navy’s “Most Wanted Denim” campaign.

Models and digital creators Paloma Elsesser, Brooks Nader, Haley Baylee, Wisdom Kaye and Quenlin Blackwell also feature in the campaign.

Cardi described the partnership as personally meaningful because she wore Old Navy clothes while growing up and now buys the brand for her children.
