Nigerian comedian Odeh Ajiri Princewill has admitted physically assaulting his former wife, Chioma, on two occasions during their marriage.
Princewill made the admission in an Instagram video responding to Chioma’s allegations of repeated domestic violence, intimidation, infidelity and financial neglect.
“I had instances where I slapped this girl twice in the marriage, and I’m not proud of it,” he said, adding that he had apologised for his actions. Princewill’s Instagram statement
The comedian said he had recorded an hour-long video detailing his side of the dispute but withdrew it following a personal appeal from Pastor Gbenga of Harvesters International Christian Church in Magodo, Lagos.
Princewill explained that he removed the recording from other platforms but was unable to delete a scheduled Instagram post.
He also challenged Chioma’s claim that he provided only ₦200,000 monthly to cover rent, school fees and other household expenses.
According to him, Chioma never paid her rent because he continued supporting her financially even after they separated.
Princewill claimed he also paid for her health insurance and sent her money whenever she requested assistance. He added that he recently covered medical expenses incurred when Chioma’s sister gave birth.
Princewill’s admission leaves wider allegations unresolved
Princewill’s statement establishes, through his own admission, that physical violence occurred on at least two occasions during the marriage.
His apology does not, however, confirm or disprove the other allegations made by Chioma. Similarly, his financial claims and insinuations about her relationships with other men remain his account of events.
Regardless of the couple’s other disputes, the number of times an assault occurred should not be used to minimise its seriousness. Allegations of infidelity or marital misconduct also do not justify physical violence.
Princewill claimed several men brought Chioma home or gave her money while they were married. He said he had previously remained silent about the matter to protect their children, identified as AJ and TJ.
Chioma had earlier accused the comedian of repeatedly assaulting her, including an alleged attack while she was recovering from a Caesarean section.
She also accused him of intimidation and persistent infidelity but denied being unfaithful during their marriage.
Chioma warned that Princewill and his family should be held responsible if anything happened to her or members of her family.
She said the alleged incidents were reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency before both parties eventually agreed to separate.
According to Chioma, her family returned Princewill’s bride price in December 2025, while he filed a divorce petition in January 2026.
She argued that any allegation of infidelity against her would have been included in the divorce petition if evidence existed to support it.
