Popular Nigerian content creator Peller has sparked fresh controversy after responding to criticism over the luxury cars he bought for his partner and his mother.
The backlash began after Peller gifted his lover, Jarvis, a Mercedes-Benz reportedly worth ₦130 million for her birthday. The move came months after he had purchased a Hyundai, said to be worth about ₦20 million, for his mother.
The price difference quickly triggered heated debates on social media, with some users accusing the influencer of prioritising his partner over his mum.
Reacting to the criticism, Peller defended his decision but drew further reactions with a biblical comparison.
“People were criticizing me because I bought a Mercedes-Benz for my baby and a Hyundai for my mum. They didn’t know that Jesus saw His mum and ignored her, and He died for the world,” he said.
His reference to Jesus immediately set off another wave of debate online, with many Nigerians faulting the comparison and describing it as unnecessary.
While some of his supporters argued that he has every right to spend his money as he pleases, others insisted that religion should not have been dragged into the matter.
One social media user wrote, “Why involve Jesus in this matter?” Another added, “It’s his money, let him gift who he wants.”
