Flamengo came from behind to defeat Chelsea 3-1 in a Group D clash at the FIFA Club World Cup on Friday.

Chelsea took the lead in the 13th minute through Pedro Neto, who scored after a mistake by Flamengo’s Wesley. Despite creating more chances, the Premier League side failed to extend their lead.

Flamengo hit back in the second half. Bruno Henrique scored in the 62nd minute, tapping in after Gonzalo Plata’s header across goal. Just three minutes later, Danilo added another goal from close range after a corner.

Chelsea’s night got worse when Nicolas Jackson was shown a straight red card in the 68th minute for a studs-up tackle on Ayrton Lucas.

Flamengo sealed the win in the 83rd minute when Wallace Yan scored from a rebound after a strong run and cross by Plata.

The result puts Flamengo at the top of Group D with six points from two games. Chelsea are second with three points, while Esperance de Tunis and Los Angeles FC are yet to earn a point but have a game in hand.

Flamengo started the match strongly, pressing high and creating several chances, but Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez made key saves. Against the run of play, Neto gave Chelsea the lead after capitalising on Wesley’s error.

Chelsea pushed for a second goal, with efforts from Malo Gusto and Liam Delap, but couldn’t find the net again. Flamengo nearly equalised before halftime, but Enzo Fernandez cleared a Gerson shot off the line.

After the break, Flamengo came out stronger, and their pressure paid off with two quick goals and a third late in the game to secure a big win.
