United States President Donald Trump has announced that Israel has agreed to a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza — with the ball now in Hamas’ court to either accept or reject the offer. Trump disclosed this on Tuesday, July 2, via his Truth Social platform, adding that the ceasefire initiative is part of an intensive diplomatic push by the U.S. to end the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

“Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. Now it’s up to Hamas. I hope, for the good of the Middle East, they take this deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” Trump wrote.

According to him, American negotiators held a “long and productive” meeting with Israeli officials on Tuesday, and the terms of the deal have now been passed on to Qatari and Egyptian intermediaries, who are expected to present them to the Hamas leadership.

The White House has been working behind the scenes for weeks on a multi-step plan to calm tensions in the region, starting with this two-month truce.

Though Israeli officials have not yet issued a public statement confirming Trump’s claims, reports indicate that plans are in motion for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit Washington next week for further talks. The ceasefire proposal is expected to be top of the agenda during the visit.

“We are optimistic that an agreement will be reached very soon,” Trump stated. The Gaza conflict has dragged on for months, drawing international concern over civilian casualties and the growing humanitarian crisis.

Previous attempts at brokering peace had stalled due to disagreements over hostages, territory, and political terms. With this development, pressure now mounts on Hamas to respond to the deal — one observers say could mark a turning point in the long-running crisis.
