Rymir Satterthwaite, a 30-year-old man who claims he is the son of rapper Jay-Z, has dropped his federal lawsuit against the music star.

In a video posted on Instagram on Saturday, July 27, Rymir confirmed that he had withdrawn the case. He did not give full details but said, “There’s a lot going on behind closed doors.” He also said he is not giving up the fight, adding, “We’ve got to step back and play chess, not checkers.”

Rymir has been claiming for years that Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, had a relationship with his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, in the 1990s which led to his birth.

Earlier this year, he filed a lawsuit against Jay-Z in federal court, but lawyers for the rapper responded in a June 16 filing, calling the claims “fabricated.” They said the same issue had already been rejected by other courts and accused Rymir of trying to harass Jay-Z.

The lawyers also said the case was not properly served, and Jay-Z only found out about it a month after it was filed.

In the lawsuit, Rymir said he was not asking for child support but for compensation for emotional stress and damage to his reputation. He also accused Jay-Z of misleading courts and using legal systems to block his paternity claim.

Jay-Z, who has three children with his wife Beyoncé — Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir — has not taken a DNA test, and his legal team insists the matter has already been settled in court.

Despite withdrawing the case, Rymir says he will continue his efforts.

“I have not stopped my fight,” he said. “This is just the beginning.”
