Left alone, battling cancer — how actor Kenneth Aguba found lifeline in the kindness of a pastor

It was four years ago that experienced Nollywood actor Kenneth Aguba was discovered living under a tarpaulin in an open market — homeless, forgotten, and starving.

Now, he's in another fight — this one for survival.

Aguba, yesteryear's cult star of Nollywood, is fighting prostate cancer. Without a wife, child, or family to fall back on, his survival is in the sole hands of one individual: HRM Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM).

Since Apostle Chinyere brought the actor from the streets in 2021, he has dressed him, fed him, and sheltered him, putting him on a monthly stipend from the church's tithes and offerings. He even placed an OPM pastor in Enugu to prepare his food personally.

The greatest battle, however, was fought when doctors informed him that Aguba had cancer.

"He goes to the hospital on a weekly basis," Apostle Chinyere wrote in a tearful post. "We do believe in divine healing, but also medicine science — both belong to God."

In order to assist people like Aguba, Apostle Chinyere constructed two 100% free specialist hospitals, accessible to Muslims and Christians. Surgery and treatments are complimentary — an extreme practice in a nation where healthcare accessibility remains a luxury for many.

The words inscribed on the hospital's walls are: "We Care, But God Heals."

Since there are no relatives or siblings coming forward, the man of God continues to bear Aguba's burden, inviting Nigerians to pray along with him.

"Where family rejected, we accepted," declared the clergyman. "Aguba is not alone."

Social media users have since rallied behind the pastor, with tearful posts capturing the news update.

"Chei! This one touched me," said a reader. "May God give you strength for picking up other people."

Aguba's story is a moving reminder of how quickly fame melts and how cuts of kindness are so deep. It is also a call to action: in a society that forgets its heroes, who will remind them?
